In progress: Dissemination of Findings from NetMark 2006 Survey on Insecticide-Treated Nets (ITNs) in Uganda

On July 6, 2007, USAID/NetMark convened a working session for the presentation, analysis and discussion of the final report and findings from the NetMark 2006 Household Survey in Uganda. Participants included representatives from: USAID, NetMark, Uganda National Malaria Control Program (NMCP), UNICEF, Africa Fighting Malaria (AFM), RTI, and NetMark partners – CooperNet, EXP Momentum, FCB Limelight, Fotogenix, Quality Chemicals Limited, SafiNet, Vestergaard Frandsen, and Xnet.

The workshop included a panel of experts including, Dr. Gunawardena Dissanayake (USAID), Dr. Flavia Mpanga (UNICEF), Ms. Enid Wamani (MARCIS), and Dr. John Rwakimari (NMCP). Panelists responded to specific sections of the draft report and proposed strategic guidelines for future malaria control activities in Uganda and the region. The panelists’ comments and suggestions will be incorporated into the final version of the report.

Celeste Marin, NetMark Research and Evaluation Officer, will continue research dissemination activities in Kampala with a presentation at Makerere University and will travel to Masaka, Mukono, Soroti and Kumi to share the findings at the district level. District health officers will have an opportunity to review the draft report and provide their feedback. Additionally, she will be accompanied by members of the survey team to selected communities that participated in the survey, to hold community meetings to discuss the findings.

Documents developed for the workshop and district level dissemination can be accessed below:
